Open This Book and Decipher It

Antonin Gadal knew all of this; that is why he wanted to open this book again, closed for centuries under the cold ashes of the stakes and vermin of the dungeons of the Inquisition. In a word, he wanted to reconstitute part of the history of the Cathar priesthood.

His research was similar to an ‘initiation’ quest. He followed each trace of the truth about the Cathars and progressively distinguished the profound links that bound them to the ancient Gnostic source of Christianity. He hoped that one day he would be able to transmit his intuitions to a collaborator.

During the years 1937-38, Anglo-German occultists such as Walter N. Birks were interested in his work and came to see him. Gadal knew, however, that the secret of the Cathars, their ‘treasure’, could not be acquired without personal effort, without an inner process of purification, an ‘Endura’. When many occultists or speculators wanted to force the door of the invisible secret, Gadal chose another path: the path of patience, of renunciation, of abnegation and of humility.

‘The door does not open by setting it on fire!’

Deep inside, he ‘knew’ it had to be opened!
That is why his work has a different scope.
What had he discovered?

The Cathar mysteries, the High Spirituality of the Bonhommes blooming in the caves of the Ariège valley.
The path of Love, of Goodness and Truth had once more been reopened.
